Zhang Weiwei - The China Wave: Rise of a Civilizational State (Weiwei is a professor at Fudan University in China and he was also relatively involved with Deng Xiaoping, making this a very interesting read)
Patricio N. Abinales and Donna J. Amoroso - State and Society in the Philippines (pretty essential for understanding how the islands went from mandala states/kingdoms/empires to a colony to the unstable democracy that it is now, along with the social and political implications over that period)
J. Neil C. Garcia - Philippine Gay Culture: Binabae to Bakla, Silahis to MSM (this is actually one of my favorite books, regardless of genre; it's an impressive work of scholarship, really well-written, and pretty essential to understand Philippine culture as an outsider imo)
Dawn Bohulano Mabalon - Little Manila is in the Heart
Pin Yathay - Stay Alive My Son
Jean Gelman Taylor - Indonesia: Peoples and Histories
Several of these are re-reads.
