I mean, I haven't watched Pretty Baby directed by Louis Malle, from 1978, but that apparently has a 13 year old (!!!!) Brooke Shields doing full frontal, and you can still get that, right?
You liked NM a little better than I did. I'm not bothered by the usual mess of a plot that I can't remember who did what or why after seeing the movie several times, and I can adjust myself to the washed out cinematography, zooms and Fender Rhodes electric piano elevator jazz that totally strands the movie in 1975, but I found the depressing nihilism about maybe 1/50th as powerful as it was in Chinatown. Instead of a sinister John Huston whom the hero could never hope to defeat, we get some bored guy with marital problems wandering into a dumb disaster involving underwater treasure.
It also deserves points shaved off for having one of the least attractive female leads in noir history, Jennifer Warner who I haven't seen in anything else. When she took off her stocking hat and said "you thought I was bald didn't you?" I almost said "yes" to my screen.
