Shouldn't they want the Nazis to think they are, in some sense, afraid of him? Bringing the cake in and of itself is consistent with that if it was some act of homage and respect, but it just seems like a bad idea when they actually like each other to an extent that they shouldn't draw attention to. The resulting situation shows that it was a bad idea. But okay them bringing the cake isn't as big a deal as Schindler kissing the girl in front of the Nazis. I thought that was unbelievably stupid.
