I don't think I've heard a lot from this year - the Game Theory album Jason mentioned is probably my favorite, or maybe Talk Talk's Colour Of Spring. I generally like OMD/Erasure but don't think I've heard those albums, and Please is a fine album but far from PSB's best.
Nobody's mentioned Graceland or Licensed To Ill, which are two of the bigger and more historically resonant albums from that year. Neither does much for me.
Some other random good albums:
Jennifer Warnes - Famous Blue Raincoat (Leonard Cohen covers - "A Singer Must Die" is the high point)
Crowded House - s/t
Les Rita Mitsouko - The No Comprendo
