We can argue all day about which is the best Fall or Beatles LP, but there are some artists who have clear career highlights that almost all fans agree upon, save for a few contrarians. Excluding greatest hits, live albums that basically just greatest hits performed live (Cheap Trick at Budokan, Purple in Japan, Lizzy Live & Dangerous), and bands that only had 1 or 2 in the first place. Most of these are debuts, unsurprisingly. Aztec Camera - High Land, Hard Rain Duran Duran - Rio Television - Marquee Moon Love - Forever Changes Mott the Hoople - Mott (Wilson & Alroy disagree, but who takes them seriously?) Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow Dire Straits - s/t Boston - s/t The Cars - s/t Guns'n'Roses - Appetite for Deconstruction Weezer - s/t (the blue one) George Harrison - All Things Must Pass ABC - The Lexicon of Love John Prine - s/t Pulp - Different Class Devo - Are We Not Men? We Are Devo Tears for Beers - Songs From the Big Toilet The Strokes - Is This It? (yes, lads, sorry - but it was) Carole King - Tapestry The Afghan Wigs - Gentlemen Asia - s/t (this list is not limited to GOOD bands!)
