Yeah, when it clicks, it's an incredibly entertaining album to listen to. And I feel like realizing that, although it's undeniably pretentious, there's a ton of self-effacing humor on there that almost seems to *make fun* of the pretentiousness ("The Blimp" is a good example and another is the inclusion of The Mascara Snake saying "Christ" after he screws up the "Fast n' bulbous" skit) is key to fully appreciating the album. It's almost as if "Trout Mask" is a statement on the inherent ridiculousness of rock music being considered high art and rock lyrics being considered poetry in the wake of Dylan.

Haha, the album should come with a sticker that says "You don't *have* to be crazy to enjoy this album, but it helps!"
