This is the solo career for The Strokes guitarist. I'd never listened to him before but my friends invited me to see him live and tickets were only like 15 bucks so I figured why not, and binged his output over a few days. Nothing here that the stokes didn't already do but these are pretty decent records all the same. There's a distinct Guided By Voices influence that comes though pretty prominently which is cool. I liked these albums better than I like The Stokes. His show was totally killer too.
Yes - Fly From Here Return Trip, Magnification, Going For The One
I'm still really enjoying Return Trip. and I just pulled out GFTO & Magnification cus I was still in a Yes mood and it's been a long time since I last spun either.
Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
Saw there was a Steven Wilson remix of this album so I thought I'd check it out. It sounds pretty much just like the original mix, so whatever.
Jack White - Boarding House Reach
Some interesting left turns into different styles than we're used to from Jack White, but the songs are mostly pretty forgettable so whatever.
They Might Be Giants - I Like Fun
Better than the average late-era TMBG album. So thumbs up.
TC&I - Great Aspirations
Nifty Colin Moulding songs.
John Coltrane - Standard Coltrane
Really good jazz. I have no further comments.
Judas Priest - Firepower
Kicks ass! I havent heard any of their other recent stuff but most of this new record easily holds up with their classic-era albums.
