COW is okay aside from Sean Penn's horrible over the top performance, Redacted you can probably skip entirely unless you want to see De Palma try a brief experiment that he fails on. He presents Iraq War troops as sitting around reading Appointment In Samarra. Yeah right!!!
I dunno. I think by the time I got around to seeing COW I'd become burnt out on how every Vietnam War movie has to have the obligatory My Lai Massacre reference/scene, you'd think that the whole reason the war was even fought was just so American troops could go over there and immediately get into situations where they don't know what they're doing and inadvertently kill women and children. Really it's just De Palma's shooting style that saves it, although it DOES save it. But without that it'd just be a downer.
Either that, or maybe I just think of the Vietnam War less as a horrible atrocity/injustice than something that just gradually went wrong, something that Hollywood Vietnam movies didn't do much to help me with.
