Problem is, by the next couple of years my love for the album dropped quite a bit. If I'd have rated it a 14 on the George scale in 2001, it'd be a very low 12 now. In particular I think I've grown pretty burnt out on "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "Think About You" which is a pretty dumb song but I used to really love the jangle guitar arpeggio part in the chorus before realizing years later that it's just an annoying song with an unusual guitar tone switch. Of the lesser known tracks I still love "Rocket Queen" and "It's So Easy" and probably "Night Train" as well. My CD copy has never been replaced so "My Michelle" has had a bad scratch/skip in it all this time.
But in fact, it's Axl that hurts the album the most for me now. A lot of his vocal mannerisms are just hyperactive and annoying and seem like he's trying too hard. All those whoa-oas and oh-myyyys and the like, in particular "You're Crazy" is really hard to listen to now because of Axl. The album was well produced otherwise and doesn't date badly to 1987-88 like other stuff from that era.
Oh goodie, lithos for each song? Which one matches up with the disgusting original cover art? A book of Axl's private pictures? I bet a lot of them are of his junk.
Hilarious first reader comment: "This is awesome--I'll probably save close to $100 by not buying this!"
