It has Busta Rhymes in an acting role and I don't think any rapper has ever made a worse actor. Christian Bale just played Patrick Bateman a second time and made for a pretty ludicrous bad white guy villain. The best thing about the movie was Jeffrey Wright as the bigger (Latin) villain and I'm pretty sure Shaft doesn't even get a love interest in the movie. At the end of the movie the murdered black kid's mom just blows Bale away in public and I guess we're supposed to believe she totally got away with it.
It isn't a terribly well remembered remake, I don't think. You can never predict what movies you'll hate the second time you watch them. Mine's The Doors.
I wonder if anyone remembers Ernest Tidyman, the white guy who created Shaft in the original novel. He won an Oscar for doing the screenplay for The French Connection in spite of William Friedkin boasting both that they worked without a script for the most part and that he, Friedkin, never read the book of TFC because it was too thick.
