and I haven't read everyone's responses yet, which surely are overlapping with mine...
this isn't helpful at all... but I would add:
have you ever considered GTFO'ing out of your town? what's an interesting urban place not too far from you? OKC? Austin, TX is pretty cool...
I mean, that's an extremely daunting proposition, right? you need the job first. but I really don't think staying in Manhattan, Kansas is going to yield all that much.
I was stuck in my hometown/home state for a little while. There's no jobs, no friends, no women... I found all of that when I moved to the city (Bahston). It took a long time to find a good-paying job, and I needed help from my family to get settled... and there were some quite hard times adjusting to things here. but now I love being here... city/urban life can be a b@stard at times, but I can get home to the people and places I care about pretty much whenever I want. I made a bunch of new friends and got a lot of job experience, social experience... met the best girl I've ever been with and am moving in with her.
I'm sure a lot of that stuff is not necessarily stuff that you want to do... but staying in one place does not easily lead to change.
