I wonder if it was ever finally established who stabbed Sharon to death--Tex is still alive, Susan Atkins croaked. Tex is a really religious guy now and in his 70s; Sue, when interviewed by Diane Sawyer, seemed really sorry about the whole deal. Tex did most of the shooting and stabbing but it seems like the girls were more famous.
Helter Skelter read to me like a great book, but like a lot of the highlights of the true crime genre (In Cold Blood, Zodiac, Columbine) it's been accused of a degree of bulls***; in the case of HS, I think it had to do with lionizing Bugliosi a bit more than it should have.
It's already been made into a movie twice, though. Uhhh...I really REALLY don't want to see Tarantino recreate Voytek Frykowski being stabbed 51 times. I guess that's what you see in that Manson Family movie from about a decade ago, though, and besides you can go see the totally disgusting crime scene pictures on the Internet really easily anyway. (Worst I've ever seen are the Black Dahlia and Fatal Vision photos, don't look at 'em!)
But what's Tarantino going to do, just depict the story straight, or are we gonna get Inglorious Basterds where Sharon survives somehow then drives out to Spahn Ranch and cuts Manson's nuts off while crazy film footage from Sharon's movies plays in the background?
A Ulysses S. Grant movie? Yeah Spielberg, forget the Civil War, just recreate Grant's miserable drunken failure of a presidency! While he's at it he can do Warren G. Harding and hey, Trump too.
