Re: What' spawnin'?
I've checked out the Girlysound tapes quite a bit in the past since I love Exile In Guyville more and more with every passing year but I don't think I've ever actually *preferred* any of the Girlysound versions of her songs. I guess the little differences in the songs are what make people like Girlysound better? Just hearing *demos* of EIG songs isn't that special since EIG itself is kind of a lo-fi album (or at least a cleverly minimally arranged one) to begin with. Whatever, I guess I could listen more, but none of my favorites ("Never Said," "Divorce Song," "6'1," "Dance Of The Seven Veils," "Flower," "Shatter," "Johnny Sunshine") are really *better* on Girlysound, though I can't even remember which all of those songs have Girlysound counterparts.
Note: Stephen Thomas Erlewine's Slanted & Enchanted reissue review requested that the Girlysound tapes be released....that was 16 years ago.
