You're not wrong
It's sort of like getting into hip-hop. Well, at least for me, delving into different hip-hop artists/albums is all about getting deep into the sound and feel of production. The general delivery is typically the same, and I find that, just like with reggae, I don't always really care who the rapper (or singer) is, but if a producer I'm interested in is on the boards, I'm eager to hear it (which explains why J Dilla and Madlib have made me listen to a lot of mediocre rappers).
