Well, since the video I'm about to share is likely to be the newest one posted on this board (it's one I shot myself just two weeks ago today!), I figured I'd also include a related vintage video as kind of a then-and-now thing. First, though, a little background:
Back in the early '60s, everyone was doing the Twist; and in New York City everyone who was anyone was doing the Twist at the Peppermint Lounge. The house band for all of this fun was Joey Dee and The Starliters, and to pay homage to the then-current dance craze, Joey co-wrote and recorded "Peppermint Twist," which twisted its way all the way to #1 on the Billboard charts. But "Peppermint Twist" wasn't the only dance song or even the only "twist" song recorded by Joey and company—just three months later, in 1962, the group released the single "Hey, Let's Twist," which also appeared on the soundtrack album of the movie of the same name. (Joey and the Starliters portrayed fictional versions of themselves in the film.) While not reaching the top of the charts like its predecessor, "Hey, Let's Twist" still made a decent showing, peaking at #20.
Now in his late 70's, Joey is still performing at venues around the country; these days, the Starliters include Joey's son Ronnie Dee on vocals and saxophone, and daughter Jamie Lee on vocals. I am fortunate enough to get to see Joey and the modern-day Starliters at least a few times a year; I've probably taken more photos of Joey than of any other singer! When Joey takes the stage at the San Gennaro Festa at the Safety Harbor (Florida) Marina, I'm sometimes able to get videos as well; and occasionally they turn out decent enough to warrant sharing.
