And to everyone else, sorry for creating the 'birthing' confusion. I'm referring to a 'community' center, not to be confused with the wonderful birthing clinic which will be up beginning 2025 and that is being donated by Dr. N.
And yes, Francisco is an honest, 'true volunteer' who has offered 'free' emergency services for over 20 years to Los Ingenios and this pueblo. He relies on the fact that people will donate what they can or want. This has kept his old converted van in service. He has never 'demanded' or 'hounded' for payment and he is truly respected by the local residents.
This last Easter week, Francisco, along with a visiting BAEJAC crew, gave free emergency first aid care to close to 100 locals and visitors. This free service, during Easter, has been provided for many years.
Francisco has also served as the town's Delegado (Mayor) but his love has been providing emergency care and transportation in his make-shift ambulance.
Now, for the project. The 'SAREX' Community Center, being developed and donated by BAEJAC at the quarry, hopes to provide several free and low-cost services to the community and surrounding area residents, including ex-pats.
The services will be mainly medical; like lab, first aid, and x-ray, and include an area for seniors. Depending on space, they hope to provide job training in the medical field such as emergency and health care for aids.
This is a future program as obstacles and permits are negotiated. First aid services will likely be immediate.
I hope this provides some answers. We will be providing information as the project proceeds but please feel free with questions.
Cruz and Francisco
PS: Francisco's no. is 315 100 7934. He doesn't speak English and this is his emergency services number.
