The whole coke amnesia aspect probably accounts for some of "Station"'s popularity
but that type of thing doesn't mean anything to me. In fact, if anything, it'd probably cause me to judge an album more harshly. But as Ken said, it's one of his most consistent albums (along with "Hunky Dory" and "Heroes") and stands poised at a critical point in his career, when he'd wisely given up all that glam rock nonsense but before he started ripping off the Germans. Plus, it's pretty damn funky, probably his best album to dance to, so that wins it bonus points. So it's maybe my favorite as well, though I often tend to gravitate more towards "Blackstar".
'you know, the title track really IS just a f***ing bore. Thank God for "If"'
As Willy Wonka would say, strike that- reverse it. Even the *band* thought "If" sucked but Waters apparently held his ground (may have been one of the first instances of that, which obviously established an unfortunate pattern). I actually don't mind "If" too much but it's definitely the least interesting track on the album IMO.
