COW is a bit heavy handed and I reiterate every time it's mentioned that Sean Penn's bellowing snarling acting is one of the worst performances of all time--possibly THE worst--but I did like how De Palma shot it. By 1989 there'd been an overkill of Vietnam movies anyway. The colonel that Michael J. Fox tells "go to hell, sir" at the end of the film is Captain Dale A. Dye, Oliver Stone's old buddy from Vietnam who helped him set up the battle scenes in Platoon and which one online argument I once read claimed was the one person most directly responsible for changing how combat is seen on film. Dye is also in Mission: Impossible and Band Of Brothers.
