Oh man, you're probably right about the French horn in Birth, and I probably mistook it for a trombone part (classical brass usually has a different sonority from jazz so this would be no exception.) It's actually Junior Collins or Sandy Siegelstein playing it. Don't feel like putting it on just now: I'm just coming down from a hypomanic spell which was probably evident both in the writing and in the sheer amount of music I took in. The twelve studio cuts are the only ones for whatever reason, no alternate takes (though the original LP dropped "Darn That Dream" -- is that to be found on the regular CD?).
I'll check out those recs. Something on eBay just sold after 45 days listed and I've now got a hundred earmarked for music to play with, with the rest to be a financial cushion. Definitely a trip to the record store is in order, too.
Didn't mean literally fusion with "Concierto" -- it has an opening and ending tune with a funky jam between them. More like Miles in the Sky than anything.
We'll have to agree to disagree about Ram. I can hear that "Uncle Albert" could be good but it's conjoined to the crappy second part.
