Re: What's spinning?
The best Camel albums are "Mirage" (one of my all time favorites) and the s/t debut (way underrated and closer to "Mirage" in style- i.e. the most "Canterbury"- than any of their others). "Moonmadness" is okay but the cheese is already starting to seep in and I've similarly always been bored by "The Snow Goose". And yeah the stuff that came after it is straight up AOR and often cringe inducingly cheesy but the songwriting keeps them from being complete disasters. "I Can See My House" in particular has some nice cuts that remind me of ELO.
Speaking of ELO, the most interesting era for both them and The Move is arguably when the latter band morphed into the former. So in addition to "Message From The Country" (the best Move album), you should also check out ELO's "No Answer" if you haven't already. Then maybe work forwards with ELO and backwards with The Move.
