Forget Carrey- what about Gondry? Talk about a talented filmmaker who seemingly shot his entire wad on a single film. "Eternal Sunshine" was a masterpiece and though "Human Nature" is endearingly quirky, it's pretty lightweight and both "The Science of Sleep" and "Be Kind Rewind" were godawful.
As far as Carrey is concerned, I have no idea which films are considered "hits" these days but the most recent Hollywood blockbuster type films were the "Kick Ass" and "Dumb & Dumber" sequels, neither of which I bothered watching. The most recent Carrey films I watched were "Lemony Snicket" (lightweight but enjoyable, like early Tim Burton), "The Number 23" (hilariously terrible) and "A Christmas Carol" (not bad but I prefer the Disney and Muppet versions).
I will admit that "Kidding"'s premise seems like a promising one but I can't say I'm all that optimistic.
