I haven't seen most of the movies from that early era, and I know alot of them (Right? Or at least some?) are supposed to be "Hitchcock before he was Hitchcock," including The Ring, which I have seen. But I've seen The Lodger and Blackmail and those, especially the later, are blueprints for many of his most popular work even if they're not among his very best. Looks like The Lodger is out in a Criterion release. I don't know if there's a good Region 1 Blackmail out there, but hopefully if it isn't Criterion gets around to it. He made both silent and sound version of that one, and it introduces alot of trademark elements. I think it has his first cameo and first chase across a famous landmark.
