I guess "Martyn Jerel Buchwald" could be a Vonnegut villain or something, probably not a Vonnegut protagonist which tended to be either ciphers or just Vonnegut himself. I think it's because his last name sounds like a concentration camp (both of them.)
It was far weirder that Kantner died on the same day, at the same age, as Signe Toly Anderson!!! Did you forget THAT bleurghski?
The writing credits for Surrealistic Pillow are all over the freakin' map and I can't seem to get a straight answer from anybody about whether or not that memorable, beautiful, mournful guitar line on "Today" is actually Jerry Garcia or not. Balin basically wrote "Today" and "Comin' Back To Me" which are the two best songs to me now, Grace wrote "White Rabbit" and her BROTHER wrote the biggest hit on the album, one song is a Skip Spence leftover (he was out of the band by then), "How Do You Feel" was written by someone outside of the band, there's a Jorma Kaukonen guitar instrumental, and I guess Marty also wrote "3/5 Of A Mile In 10 Seconds" (which I like) and "Plastic Fantastic Lover" (the only song on the album I don't particularly care for.)
Look who covered "Today":
