Mic issues really just boils down to the drums. Getting the drum mics set up and the inputs set up and connected and sounding good takes forever. It's a huge pain in the ass. But I only had to do it once and once all the drums were done they were done. Mics for everything else is easy enough cus you can just play around and have fun experimenting.
Yeah there was very little studio experimentation. We pretty much just recorded the same arrangements we perform live, with a few extra overdubs here and there. the title track was a studio experiment piece but it came together pretty quickly. And the more experimental sections we added in (the intro section for "Truth" for instance) were ideas we had planned out in advance before recording. So we didn't have to waste too much time figuring things out during actual recording.
Which is in stark contrast to my last band project (the album by my old band Paper House) where we experimented with almost every part of every song.
