Finally checked out the debut and dug it but it still isn't fit to polish this album's Beatle boots.
Big Brother & The Holding Co - Cheap Thrills
The live versions of the material from the debut basically make it redundant and this is of course a classic and Janis's best work along w/ the Winterland set.
NIN - The Downward Spiral
Never liked the debut except for maybe "Something I Can Never Have". Dated cheesy gothy sythnpop, whereas this is their best work and still one of the best produced albums ever.
Marilyn Manson - Smells Like Children
My favorite release from them, called an EP because it's mostly remakes of songs from the debut but it's an hour long and it's definitely a lot better than the amateurish 1st album.
Santana - Abraxas
1st one was solid but most material is underdeveloped. This is their best and is far more fully realized and fairly eclectic as well.
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Nobody even cares about the debut except for Billdude
The Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
The debut is frat rap which has aged horribly and this is their best and still one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time.
Alice In Chains - Dirt
Debut is front loaded and a bit too generic sludgy metal at times. This is their best album (though their best work is arguably the "Jar of Flies" EP + the "Sap" EP)
Jethro Tull - Stand Up
Never liked this much, especially compared to most fans but there's a few good songs and it's definitely an improvement over the forgettable debut.
The Stooges - Funhouse
On the fence about this one, actually. The debut probably has better songs but this has better sound and is more interesting and consistent.
Tom Waits - The Heart of Saturday Night
The debut is dull and Spingsteenesque- this is one of his best, my favorite from his early period, along with "Nighthawks".
Pearl Jam - Vs.
The debut was arena rock in a flannel shirt. This is *grunge*, mother####er (though not as good as the 2 albums that followed).
Steely Dan - Countdown To Ecstasy
Debut is good but some of the material towards the end is pretty forgettable, whereas this definitely makes more of an impression.
Public Enemy - Nation of Millions
Actually never heard the debut but it's safe to say this one's better
Sigur Rós - Ágćtis byrjun
