Recent years? It's been that way since it came out, as I recall. In a way it kind of is an analogue of "Backstreet's Back" as an out-of-chatacter upbeat electronic number -- did the Backstreet Boys ever do a similar one? I think I'm being swayed by the "artists you despise" as what Hanson and the Spice Girls were to 1997, Britney and the BSB were to 1998-2001 or so. There was an unwritten rule that every middle-school boy had to pour bile on them or else be considered a fag or something. I don't know if any of the dynamics would have changed if I had been born a few years earlier or later. I certainly had an exaggerated dislike for them because of the circumstances, I'll give you that. (I think there's then also the need to have one good song by to them.)
