I love "Closer" and its video is my all time favorite (and the video for "Heart Shaped Box" is up there too) but we already argued about that when I posted my list of favorite music videos. But I also think Trent's vox are easier to take than the other singers you mentioned, with the possible exception of Kurt (Kurt can be hit or miss live but he obviously gets more nostalgia points than NIN). I mean, sure he over-emotes but so do the other 3 (especially Corgan) and Trent has more of a traditional "good masculine singing voice" than the others. I can play devil's advocate re: Corgan (he's usually tolerable when singing gently) but preferring Vedder? That's ####ing nuts.
I've also never liked "Pretty Hate Machine" partly *because* it sounds like Depeche Mode and their ilk. I mean, I'm not a fan of that kinda shit in general but it sounds especially awkward when married to Trent's angst (even though he was obviously a big fan)
