Re: GUN TO YOUR HEAD, what's your ONE favorite movie of all-time?
I'll go with A Canterbury Tale, although I don't feel entirely confident about my choice. How I came to it: a college girlfriend had a big boxset of Criterion/Janus films that included The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp, a title I found memorable enough to seek it out at the library a couple years later. Liked it enough to check out more and more Powell/Pressburger movies, of which Canterbury is probably my favorite (though Blimp, The Red Shoes, and I Know Where I'm Going! all compete).
I love Canterbury because it's got enough of a plot to drive the story while also realizing that the plot doesn't really matter and it's just a method to evoke without explaining. Also beautifully shot like all of the P/P films.
