I sort of didn't really understand the b&w flashbacks. And you're dead right, there's probably an inevitable remake down the pipe (since they remake EVERY horror hit...even films that weren't really hits, which Martin
certainly wasn't!) that will do precisely that, make it all about the mystery.
1976 was an odd time to be making a film with that sort of quasi-postmodern, quasi-deconstructed "yeah, it doesn't even matter if this creepy kid is a vampire, life sucks" sort of feel.
John Amplas (Martin) still acts and turned up in Dawn Of The Dead
as a Puerto Rican gangster!!
