My initial reaction is "#### that, life's too short" but TBH I don't really have a problem with that, since I was never the type who cared about actually beating an entire game (can count the number of games I actually beat on 1 hand). So as long as you can take a long break and pick up where you left off, it doesn't really matter how many levels/stages a game has, at least not to me.
I'm not even sure what "save states" are but I was never into shortcuts- always seemed to defeat the purpose (main one I remember was a level in the original "Mario Bros" where you could climb above everything and just walk to the end of the level, avoiding all the obstacles. Cool thing to show your friends I guess but again, defeats the purpose, which is actually *playing* (as opposed to simply beating) the game.
