You haven't heard Moonflower? That's one from the mid-70s that alot of people know. It's part studio, part live. Those versions of the 60s tracks don't sound as earthy as the earlier versions but the guitar playing is good.
The mid/late 80s might have been a good live period because he had some credible veteran musicians like Alphonso Johnson on bass (Weather Report), Chester Cortez Thompson (Zappa), and Buddy Miles. From what I remember those albums were still lame but maybe there's a decent comps. worth of material.
