Re: "Basic Instinct" only had 1 real reason to exist:
It really wasn't much of a film, even with Verhoeven directing. I don't recall the acting as being bad, but the subject of the movie was just tacky in general.
At the time it was made the guy who wrote it, Joe Eszterhas, was the highest paid screenwriter in Hollywood history. His career never recovered after Showgirls.
