And yeah the Beach Boys do have some awful stuff, but they have the advantage of their really dismal stuff generally being bad in fascinating ways rather than boring ways. So going through their discog and following their career arc would be quite interesting.
Even if some of the bad albums aren't worth more than one or two spins, they're still worth checking off the "now at least I know what that sounds like" box, especially if someone's interest in the band goes far enough to be interested in learning about all their behind the scenes drama and stuff. Maybe BD could pick up a Brian Wilson bio or something to read (I've always been a fan of "Catch A Wave" by Peter Ames Carlin, though it's a bit out of date now)
