I'm with you on "Take Me Down" (yeah Iha's a bad singer in general but on that one he's especially awful) and sorta agree re: "Stumbline"- never understood the popularity of that one, just kind of a dull coffee house folk kinda song. I like the other 2 though and actually consider "Fear To Tread" a highlight and one of their more successful heavy songs. There's always been songs on the album that I'm not really a fan of (and a couple that I've never been able to remember from their titles, even after all this time, like "In The Arms of Sleep" and "To Forgive") but I've also always found it to be have the "White Album"-esque quality where the eclecticism and amount of material creates a "greater than the sum of its parts" effect.
I still say Corgan is more annoyingly broody than Reznor in terms of both lyrics and vocals. But as Triumph The Insult Comic Dog would say, that's like trying to compare vomit to piss.
