Don't think comparisons to "The Witch" are due to plot
which is only similar in the most superficial sense (family gets picked off one by one due to mysterious supernatural force). The similarities have more to do with tone/approach (and maybe the fact that the 2 films share a producer is inviting comparisons). And comparisons to "Rosemary's Baby" and "Poltergeist" don't seem to hold much water either. It's not a perfect film but focusing your negative criticism on its alleged lack of originality just makes it seem like you're in desperate search of things to complain about. I mean, if "Hereditary" truly seems like a mashup of those 3 films then by comparison, 99.9% of all modern horror films are remakes in all but name. And if that bothers you, you may as well just give up on the genre.
But maybe something we can agree on is Josephine Foster's new album? It's her longest so I'm still absorbing it but I'm enjoying it quite a bit.
