"Tonal gradation is needed for all drama."
Sounds like a blanket statement I can't really get behind but it's beside the point since this is a horror film, not just a straight drama. And humor is needed for all drama as well? That's your most bizarre rule so far! Besides, like I said, there *is* some humor in "Hereditary"- it's just very, very dark humor. SPOILERS Already gave the example of Colette banging her head on the ceiling but the scene where the son becomes possessed in his classroom. Even the son's death is funny- he watched his mom decapitate herself in mid air but doesn't react until he sees the naked cult members? And then neither they or any evil spirits need to kill him, because he's so scared he jumps out the window? Maybe I have a ####ed up sense of humor but that's all kinda funny to me.
