Depends on how anal about it you are, but the basic tall book-case (don't know the name of it) will hold eleven shelves of CDs. It a book-case so you can put two rows of CDs per shelf. Granted, that means half your collection will not be in view at any given time, and will be mildly irritating to find (though if you keep them alphabetical, it's not very hard). Anyway, done that way, you get 150 per shelf, so that's 1650 per bookcase. Given that they're 7 feet tall, that's not a big footprint for 1650 CDs. I have two of those, but have them set up for 9 shelves of CDs (I put vinyl on the bottom shelf). Whatever CDs I have that didn't make the two book-cases are boxed up and in storage. This is a really cheap way to get a lot of storage. But it obviously does have some drawbacks, too.
