Re: the way the public dealt w/ Cobain's death- it's impossible for me to be objective but I think it makes perfect sense. They were the biggest band in the world, even outselling Michael Jackson which seemed an impossible task. Not only were they popular but they rewrote the rulebook to a certain extent, hence the hair metal bashing. And in the midst of all of this, Kurt blew his head off. That'd be like if John Lennon and Paul McCartney initiated a suicide pact right in the middle of Beatlemania. Okay, not exactly, but you get my point. TBH, it was only in retrospect that I really realized how much I was affected by Kurt's death. It was borderline traumatic for me (I was 11 years old, he was my hero and I didn't even know what suicide was) and I know I'm not the only one.
