Heh it's almost the opposite w/ me- I like her sound but not her writing, which just sounds like a modern indie approximation of 60's English folk rock. And while there's nothing inherently wrong with that, those English folk songs were often hooky in a way Timony's songs aren't. But I do like her breathy vocals and the glossy production (courtesy of Mark Linkous AKA Sparklehorse).
And though it's obviously a very different album, I had a similar reaction to the Thompson/Thompson. Though in the case of that one, I have a feeling it's not a good album to listen to as background music at work, which is what I did. But I was definitely already a fan of both Thompsons as musicians so I was unsurprised that I at least enjoyed the sound they create together, even if the tunes didn't really hook me in.
The Tom Tom Club is a lot of fun. "Genius of Love" is of course the best thing on there but I feel like the album would appeal to most fans of that song.
