You said you like The Wild Bunch right? Did you see Peckinpah's earlier Ride the High Country, which is a follow up to all the Budd Boetticher/Randolph Scott movies? And if you get around to the Boetticher/Scott/Burt Kennedy movies, or maybe even if you don't, see Fort Dobbs, also scripted by Kennedy and shot in Monument Valley by cinematographer William H. Clothier, who shot there with Ford too (and worked on alot of other John Wayne movies). That one is interesting because it's Monument Valley looks nothing like John Fords. Both Fort Dobbs and Rio Conchos are directed by Gordon Douglas, probably best remembered for Them! at this point.
I hope you've watched (or at least will watch) the non-Wayne John Ford classics like My Darling Clementine and Wagon Master.
