Wild Life is an atrocious album. The reason why I liked Paul McCartney over the likes of Lennon is that he was a meticulous polished perfectionist. His chord progression, arrangement, production and sound are generally more interesting.
To hear him writing half baked, half written songs to try and be "spontaneous" is really just depressing. I think a feature of his solo career is that he is great when McCartney works for it but he kinda sucks when he is lazy.
Red Rose Speedway is pretty underrated. it's essentially a great album ruined by the god-awful medley (which unfortunately is the longest track of the album). However every other song is at least good. Little Lamb Dragonfly is a pop masterpiece, great acoustic riff intro, great melody, soaring chorus of la la la is marvelous. Get on the right Thing is another classic with a great intro that builds up to the McCartney ohhhh that is carthatic and the Get On The Right Thing backing vocals is pure ecstasy. My Love may be criticised for being sappy but it is an amazingly well constructed sappy song. The rise and fall in the chorus of My Love does it good whoaaa is spectacular melody writing. 12/15 album. If the hold me tight medley was removed I would probably increased the mark to 13/15
