Yeah, the post-war section of the book is sort of nightmarish, like the parts where he keeps circling back to the camp after getting briefly caught up in more and more terrifying scenarios actually reads like a bad dream.

I've been listening to a podcast called Backlisted lately, which is just some British people chatting about a different old and semi-neglected book each week and occasionally making references to The Fall. It's pretty fun, and nice to hear people with good voices reading passages of things like Hubert Selby Jr or Muriel Spark aloud.
