Yeah I guess it has to be a manly killing in a romantic cultural context, rich people can't just kill their wives. Jim Gordon played on a bunch of beloved songs and while only music geeks know who he is and he's not "the artist" on anything so he's a somewhat different case he did kill his mom with a hammer without harming the popularity of any of his work. He's mentally ill but he wasn't allowed to use it as a defense in court and got 16 to life. That was in 1983, and wikipedia says that he was transferred from a regular prison to a mental hospital last year.

Pat Hare killed his wife or girlfriend, I can't remember which. I know that song is totally obscure and an example of nothing. I just thought it was relevant to the discussion.
