I don’t characterize defending one’s self “political violence.”
I don’t equate early America’s defense of their declaration of independence with the political violence we are experiencing today. These people were attacked by a foreign government hellbent on destroying our young republic. Yes, there was violence, but it was in response to bullets flying in the direction of those seeking freedom from tyranny. Today, there seems to be an irrational support of people who readily will take the life of another human being based on their dislike for the victim’s political philosophy. This would seem to be antithetical to the basic principle of democracy.
