Arguably, the sale would have been good for US jobs and certainly for shareholders given Nippon’s commitment to invest capital in the company. The Biden Regime blocked the sale, citing “national security” concerns. This is odd considering Japan is one of our biggest allies and treaties between the US and Japan have mandated and detailed language which outlines trade policies which benefit both countries.

Details are murky, but now Trump is evidently close to announcing a deal in which the federal government will get a “golden share” of the company and will dictate who is on the board effectively controlling the decisions of a private company.

I suspect the framers of the Constitution are rolling over in their graves at the thought of two presidents meddling in the free market. This reminds me of the Milton Friedman quote:

“Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.”
