Waste, fraud and inefficiency in government spending is a huge problem. We can bury our heads in the sand and pretend it is not an issue. Or we can do something about it.

Instead, we overreact at the very mention of entitlement reform. The Chicken Littles would have us believe that Medicare and Social Security are wholly sustainable without reform and somehow, with almost $37 trillion of debt, there will never be a time that benefits will have to be reduced because there will be no money in the system to pay them fully.

All it takes is merely mentioning that waste and fraud needs to be addressed and the messenger gets his businesses torched and products vandalized.

It’s past time we had an adult conversation about fraud and waste in government. The first step is admitting we have a problem.

We simply cannot afford to keep kicking the can down the road.
