Trump seems to support government intervention in markets including tariffs especially if it benefits targeted political groups (ie unions). He is fine picking winners and losers using unfettered federal “authority” and intervention in free markets.
He wants to remove the debt limit. Even Elizabeth Warren has been giddy in support of this particular Trump position. His BBB is nothing but a traditional Democrat agenda (with the possible exception of extending tax policy) wrapped in populist talking points. He didn’t even give lip service to the spending cuts needed to avoid economic disaster created by a burgeoning debt.
He seems very fond of governing by executive fiat, a favorite tactic of his predecessor, Joe Biden who was once the face of the traditional Democrat party of the 1980’s.
Yet Democrats hate him. Not because of his policies, but because he is a Republican. This seems strange to me since many of his policies reflect the thinking of his own Democrat past.
We live in strange times, indeed.
