Getting humiliated by Israel after a lot of big talk (and big spending) is just the sort of thing to bolster Iran's domestic opposition to the current Isalamist government. Bring the Great Satan (US) directly into the mix, however, and you risk galvanizing Iran behind the Khamenei regime, making any overthrow massively more difficult.
