If “united” means supporting all of a president’s policies, count me out.

If “united” means agreeing that we are a constitutional republic and we cherish freedom, I am all in.

Freedom means the right to disagree, protest, and otherwise express our displeasure when those freedoms are eroded or suppressed by those in power. I am not sure unity is necessarily a good thing when power is abused by politicians.

Trump is a populist. He was a Democrat for a decade. He loves tariffs. He is not shy about the federal government taking a stake in private businesses. These are positions that Democrats and socialists have historically supported. Yet Democrats hate him.

I don’t think the people want to be united. And I don’t necessarily think that is a bad thing.
