Having immigration enforcement at polling places would suppress Latino voting regardless of whether a particular person was legally in the country. Even a fully legal foreign resident is likely to be worried that la migra/ICE would mistakenly detain them, and given the well-publicized mistakes those agencies make, that worry is perfectly reasonable.

Such proposals have as much to do with politically-motivated voter suppression as they do with election security.
